About this Event
Winter is fading but here in Scotland we've still got plenty of cold days to come yet! Keep yourself cozy and warm by practising a new handcraft that has unlimited practical uses.
Nalbinding is an ancient and officially endangered heitage craft. Over 10,000 years old, it was used worldwide and has been made most famous as the pre-knitting style of the Vikings.
Join me as we travel back in time to learn this unique heritage craft and take home your own viking style pouch, perfect for coins, treasures, trinkets, or even mobile phones. The sizing and style will give you all the skills you need to move onto bigger projects like hats and mittens.
In this workshop you will learn:
👉A brief history and use of nalbinding
👉How to start and finish your items
👉The renowned Oslo stitch
👉Looping technique
👉Increasing and decreasing your stitches
👉How to join chains
👉How to choose and adjust tensioning for styling
This workshop includes 7 hours of practical tuition, 100% pure wool, nalbinding needles to use on the day, and a finished item to take home! There will be additional resources and kits available to purchase at the workshop so you can continue practising at home with everything you will need.
Teas and coffees are included but please bring your own packed lunch, which we can enjoy over looking the stunning views of the Moray Firth.
Attendance is kept small so that you can receive as much 1:1 support as needed. This session is aimed at 12yrs+ and complete beginner level so no yarn caft experience is necessary!
