About Bennett: Bennett, a 2004 Belgian/Draft cross gelding, turned 21 this year—and what better way to celebrate than with a local brew? But Bennett isn’t just sipping for fun. Every day, this hardworking therapy horse enjoys a carefully measured stout beer mixed into his feed. Why, you ask? Because that pint packs a powerful health punch! The hops, barley, and yeast in stout beer provide essential nutrients like B vitamins, iron, and anti-inflammatory properties that help Bennett manage his chronic laminitis and boost his circulation.
Laminitis is a condition that affects the sensitive tissues connecting the hoof wall to the coffin bone. Add in a metabolic disorder (think horsey diabetes), and Bennett requires expert care to stay comfortable and mobile. Thanks to his tailored diet, special hoof care, and yes, his daily beer mash, Bennett continues to thrive as a cherished member of the Equine-Assisted Therapy team. With his best friends, a mischievous miniature donkey named Tator and a sassy pot-bellied pig named Petunia by his side, Bennett brings smiles, confidence, and healing to riders of all ages and abilities. Together, they’re living proof that good friends—and good beer—can make all the difference.
