Bedroom Bondage: An Introduction to Shibari Techniques
Discover the art of intimacy and connection through the fundamentals of shibari in this beginner-friendly class, Bedroom Bondage. Rooted in Japanese rope bondage, shibari emphasizes trust, communication, and creative expression through intricate ties and gentle restraint. This class will introduce foundational techniques designed for bedroom play, focusing on safety, consent, and the sensual aspects of rope work. Whether you're looking to enhance your connection with a partner or explore personal empowerment through restraint, this workshop provides a supportive space to learn and practice.
Participants will be guided through essential knots, tension control, and body mechanics to create both aesthetically pleasing and functional ties. We’ll cover techniques suitable for various body types and experience levels, ensuring everyone feels comfortable and confident in their rope skills. Additionally, we will discuss negotiation and aftercare practices to foster a safe and fulfilling experience for both partners. Hands-on practice will be encouraged, and those attending solo will have the option to tie themselves or pair with a fellow participant in a structured and respectful manner.
This class welcomes individuals and couples of all backgrounds who are curious about incorporating rope play into their intimate experiences. No prior experience is necessary, and all materials will be provided, though participants are welcome to bring their own rope if preferred. Dress comfortably and be prepared to engage in an evening of exploration, education, and connection. Whether you’re looking to add a new dimension to your intimacy or simply curious about the sensual possibilities of shibari, Bedroom Bondage offers a welcoming environment to learn, experiment, and play.
About your Instructor: Halliard is a seasoned bondage practitioner with over 5 years of experience in various forms of restraint and suspension. Their journey into bondage began with their partner, who introduced them to the art of Shibari as a form of therapy to help her reclaim her bodily autonomy after a traumatic experience. She affectionately calls it her "rope hug," and it has been a powerful tool for healing from past traumas and forming deep connection in their relationship. Halliard has dedicated themselves to mastering various forms of bondage, including floor and bedroom bondage, suspension, and self-suspension. They learned how to suspend their partner at Studio Friction and have also taken a weekend intensive with Shay Tiziano, author of "Tying and Flying: Bondage for Self-Suspension," to learn how suspension feels before they entrusted themselves with their partner’s life using rope. In addition to their personal practice, Halliard is actively involved in the BDSM community. They currently serve as the Dungeon Master for the 2nd Friday's Gateway Play partIES at the Denver Sanctuary, where they help create a safe and welcoming space for kinksters to explore their desires. They have also been a board member for the Left of the Slash Intensive Weekend for the past two years and are proud to be the Build 2nd to the director of the build crew for the 2025 Guild of Deviated Standards BDSM convention. Halliard also manages the 2nd and 4th Wednesday Rope Labs at Studio Friction. With their experience and knowledge, Halliard is both well-equipped and excited to share their expertise with others and help them navigate the world of bedroom bondage!
