About this Event
This training seminar hosted by Motley Zoo Animal Rescue and Tom at TM Dog Training is designed for people who foster dogs- or who are considering fostering dogs- to increase the family/ individual's capacity for dog handling in an effort to make fostering even more fun, rewarding and simple!
To be clear: anyone with dog training needs can attend! Whether you recently adopted a dog and you're struggling with a behavior- or perhaps you've had a dog for a while and you want to increase your skills, you will glean valuable information.
Through the demonstrations using real foster dogs, foster families will be able to better understand and communicate with them, addressing common challenges that can create obstacles for the dogs finding homes.
With strategy and regular support we believe that the fostering experience can be more impactful, setting dogs up for success in their homes- and help keep them there long term.
If you have a foster dog or are interested in fostering for a rescue or shelter, please register!
The number of demonstration dog spaces will be limited to 4, however fosters whose dogs are not able to come this session can/ should still come and learn without their dogs (and can sign up for the next seminar).
**Please email [email protected] to reserve your foster dog with your donation.
We plan to do this a few times a month at different locations to ensure the most fosters from any orgs can participate (ex: one week in Issaquah, the next Renton, the next Seattle and so on).
This session will focus on recognizing your foster dog's attitude and interests including MARKER WORDS which is like a verbal "clicker" to easily give your dog feedback about their behavior. With balanced feedback your dog can choose the right path quickly, every time. The more they get rewarded, the easier it is to choose!
- How does a dog acquire reward?
- How does a dog avoid conflict (fear, uncertainty, etc.)?
- How does a dog escape discomfort (fear, uncertainty, etc.)?
By using simple cues for these situations you will learn how to help your foster dog navigate the world successfully by changing how they think about their actions.
This is just the start of an ongoing series that will improve the foster experience, produce highly adoptable dogs- and will in turn, save more lives!
