Becky Shaw & Allen Broyles perform a rich variety of jazz standards and songs of the season that will warm your heart and douse you in holiday spirit and cheer. Order up something from the Eddie’s Attic bar and have a merry evening with friends and family. Becky Shaw (Just Roxie) on vocals & flute, and Allen Broyles (Josh Joplin Band) on piano will be joined by Lauren Spence on upright bass and Bill Sommer on drums.
*About Becky Shaw & Allen Broyles:*
Becky Shaw and Allen Broyles met in 1994 during the production of the studio recording, “Jesus Christ, Superstar: A Resurrection” featuring Amy Ray and Emily Saliers (as Jesus & Mary Magdalene, respectively) and Michael Lorant, along with many Atlanta bands and musicians. During rehearsals & performances of the live production of JCS at the Variety Playhouse, SXSW and “The Pier” in Seattle, both came to respect each other’s musical talents. But it was their experience working together in cover bands “The Cake Toppers” and “The Susi French Connection” that gave Becky the idea to enlist Allen’s help in recording some Christmas songs with her in 2008. What began as an idea to record a few songs to give as gifts that year quickly evolved into something that included voices and instrumentation from several of their friends, and sounded so great, they decided to do a second recording – Hello, Christmas! Vol. 2 – the following year. A third “Hello, Christmas” album was recorded off and on over a decade and finally released in December of 2022 – Hello, Christmas! Vol. 3. Becky and Allen also collaborated in producing Becky’s solo album, “Shut Down, Jump In” with Atlanta producer Rob Gal.
The musical instincts of this duo have come to be naturally in sync after working together for over 30 years. And around the winter holidays, if the spirit moves them to dust off the holiday songs, you’re in for a special, fun evening of music. Hello, Christmas!
