In honor of Women’s History Month and Black History Month, this concert celebrates the enduring power of women composers whose voices have shaped—and continue to shape—the choral landscape. Featuring music by Rosephanye Powell, Alice Parker, and Elaine Hagenberg, the program highlights works that draw from spiritual tradition, communal storytelling, and contemporary expression. We will be joined by three local high school ensembles: Cantabile Women's Chorus, Indian River High School Concert Choir, and Bella Voce from Sussex Tech. These composers span generations yet share a commitment to music as a vehicle for reflection, justice, and human connection. From Powell’s deeply rooted cultural narratives to Parker’s pioneering influence on American choral sound, and Hagenberg’s luminous, modern lyricism, this concert honors both legacy and living artistry.
Together, these works form a tapestry of resilience, faith, and hope—lifting voices that remind us of the transformative power of women’s creativity and the profound role Black artists play in shaping our shared musical heritage.
