** UPDATED -- PLEASE READ AS WE"RE DOING SOMETHING A BIT DIFFERENT ***This year marks the 5th anniversary since Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021. So for this Juneteenth (eve) Beat Night, we are celebrating and honoring by inviting folks to share a poem relevant to the celebration or a poem by your favorite black poet. As always, we welcome 1 poem (up to 3 min) of sharing during our Open Mic. In fact, if you email [email protected] and let us know who you’re reading ahead of time, we will sign you up in advance and secure your spot. Be sure to let us know the poet’s name and even throw in a little extra info like where they call home and what time period they hail from.
Our featured poet this month is Mckendy Fils-Aimé.
Mckendy Fils-Aimé is a New England based Haitian American poet, organizer, and teaching artist. He is the author of sipèstisyon (YesYes Books, 2026) and has received fellowships from Callaloo, Cave Canem, The Watering Hole, CantoMundo, and Periplus. Over the span of nearly two decades, Mckendy has represented New England in several regional and national poetry slams, performing on numerous semifinal and final stages. Mckendy’s work has been featured or is forthcoming in Best New Poets, Adroit, Muzzle, American Literary Review, the Academy of American Poets’ Poem-a-Day series, and elsewhere.
