Does your child love singing? Have they ever considered being a chorister? Join us for our annual ‘Be A Chorister For A Day’ on Saturday 12 October 2024!
This event is all day.
This informal and fun day is an exciting opportunity for girls and boys in Years 2, 3 and 4 to gain first-hand experience of what it’s like to be a chorister at Salisbury Cathedral and the Cathedral School.
Parents and guardians are also welcome. The day ends with a special Evensong service, led by the Cathedral’s Director of Music, David Halls, and performed by all the visiting children with the current choristers.
Why be a chorister?
• Singing in a choir boosts confidence and teaches children to work both independently and collaboratively
• Choristers benefit from practical and theoretical musical tuition delivered by a range of expert tutors
• Salisbury Cathedral School offers an outstanding education where choristers receive a fee remission
• Choristers take part in regular Cathedral services, numerous recitals, radio and television broadcasts, regular international tours, as well as recording CDs
We welcome enquiries from pupils in school years 2,3 and 4. Occasionally older children are accepted, please contact the Salisbury Cathedral Music Officer ([email protected]) for more information. Prospective choristers are initially invited for a pre-audition. Successful candidates will be invited to attend voice trials and sit academic entrance exams. All candidates offered a place as a chorister are automatically considered for a choral scholarship.
