Batucadeiras das Olaias - 18:00 - 19:00
Batuku is a musical genre from Cape Verde. It is traditionally performed by a women's collective, the batukadeiras, consisting of a chorus and a soloist.

Persecuted during Portuguese colonisation, this genre was revived by the Cape Verdean diaspora in Portugal. The Batucadeiras das Olaias are part of this revival.

Batuku é um género musical de Cabo Verde. Na sua forma performativa, é apresentado cenário chamado terreru e interpretado por um coletivo de mulheres - as batukadeiras -, composto pelo coro e uma solista.

Considerado nocivo aos bons costumes durante a colonização portuguesa, este e outros géneros foram recuperados e trazidos para Portugal pelas comunidades cabo-verdianas na diáspora. É, precisamente, o caso das Batucadeiras das Olaias.
