In this class we will discuss and explore the different types of basic seat weaving and the fibers used as well as what works best on what type of chair. Included will be hand caning, pressed caning, French caning, Shaker tape, rushing, and splinting. Students will then make a hand caned sampler. THIS CLASS IS REQUIRED before being able to attend the Advanced caning class and the Advanced ladder back class which in both students will actually weave seats on their chairs.Students need to bring...measuring tape, sharpened pencil, a brick wrapped in plastic wrap, 12 large wooden clip style clothespins, old towel, scissors, pocket knife, a small regular screw driver, spray bottle, pail or dish pan to hold 2 gallons of water, lunch, drinks and snacks...wear comfortable clothes.
