Award-winning movie Baska is Speaking Hungarian will be featured at the second Mari Törőcsik Film Festival in Toronto on September 28, 2024 from 1:30PM at the Carlton Cinema (20 Carlton St, Toronto, ON, M5B 1J2)SYNOPSIS
Baska Speaks Hungarian (2023, 45 minutes)
The film Baska is Speaking Hungarian portrays the childhood of artist József Baska and his family's harrowing escape from Rosznyó to Hungary on horseback in a single night, fleeing deportation to the Sudetenland in January 1947.
However, the film transcends the personal trauma of a single family, serving as a tribute to the thousands of Hungarians who were deported from Czechoslovakia. It poignantly explores the question: Can art heal the wounds of transgenerational trauma?
