The course is highly practical, with participants working in small groups of three students per one ultrasound machine, allowing for extensive hands-on practice and individualized instruction.The maximum number of participants is 12, ensuring optimal learning conditions and close contact with the instructor.
The training covers the fundamental principles and clinical applications of cardiac and lung ultrasound, including:
Echocardiography basics:
- Standard transthoracic views (parasternal, apical, subcostal)
- Basic assessment of cardiac anatomy and function
- Evaluation of global left ventricular function
- Recognition of pericardial effusion
- Basic hemodynamic assessment using ultrasound
Lung ultrasound:
- Normal lung ultrasound anatomy
- Lung sliding and pleural line assessment
- A-lines and B-lines
- Detection of pleural effusion
- Ultrasound signs of pneumothorax
- Integration of lung ultrasound into emergency and critical care assessment
The course focuses on bedside applicability, image acquisition, probe positioning, and basic interpretation in acute and critical care settings.
The course is led by an experienced clinician Piotr Grabski:
- Physician in specialty training in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care
- Chair of the Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Section of the Polish Ultrasound Society
- Member of the Emergency Medical Team (EMT) of the Polish Center for International Aid (PCPM)
This course provides a practical, structured, and clinically oriented introduction to abdominal ultrasound, tailored specifically to the needs of medical students preparing for clinical practice.
