About this Event
Thank you for your interest in the Basic Knife Skills Training from the UNITE HERE Mid Atlantic Training and Scholarship Fund. This class is from 3-4 hours and can support a class size of 10-15 students. Must have at least 1 year of cooking experience. Students will leave with a basic understanding of knife safety in a kitchen, learn cutting techniques, and will demonstrate these cutting techniques. The key to safety and learning is repetition. Learning blocks for the class are below:
- Sanitation and set up
- Knife safety: handling, carrying, cutting, washing
- How to safely hand the knife to someone else
- Knife sharpening: how to hone with a steal
- Cutting techniques: small, medium and large dice cuts
- Cutting techniques: rough chopping, slicing, julienne, mincing
