"Barwy ochronne" ("Camouflage") is a 1976 film directed by Krzysztof Zanussi, classified as part of the so-called “Cinema of Moral Anxiety.” It depicts the events of a summer research camp, during which the conflicting attitudes of the young, idealistic Ph.D. Kruszyński and the experienced, cynical Associate Professor Szelestowski come into sharp contrast. The film serves as a good starting point for sociological reflection on academic advancement and, more broadly, on the overall picture of the academic environment. In these reflections, however, it goes beyond narrow boundaries, rasing a series of questions about humanity and its place in the hierarchy of nature.
As part of the 15th Young Sociologists’ Congress, we invite you to a screening preceded by an English-language lecture by Michał Chłopek. We will focus on the social aspect of the film, a sociological analysis of the movement, and place the work within the broader context of the history of Poland and Polish cinema. The film will be available with English subtitles.
Michał Chłopek – a master’s sociology student and coordinator of the Film Section of the Sociology Students' Association of JU. In his bachelor’s thesis, he analyzed the role of Polish cinema of the 1990s in legitimizing the social and political changes of the transition period.
The event is organized by the Sociology Students’ Association of Jagiellonian University and the Institute of Sociology of JU. It is co-funded by Rada Kół Naukowych UJ.

„Barwy ochronne” to film w reżyserii Krzysztofa Zanussiego z roku 1976, zaliczany do tzw. kina moralnego niepokoju. Przedstawia on perypetie letniego obozu naukowego, podczas którego dochodzi do zderzenia konfliktujących się postaw młodego, idealistycznego doktoranta Kruszyńskiego oraz doświadczonego i cynicznego docenta Szelestowskiego. Film stanowi dobry przyczynek do socjologicznej refleksji na temat awansu w akademii, oraz szerzej: całościowego obrazu środowiska akademickiego. W przemyśleniach tych, wychodzi on jednak poza wąskie ramy, zadając szereg pytań na temat człowieka i jego miejsca w hierarchii natury.
W ramach 15. Kongresu Młodej Socjologii zapraszamy na pokaz poprzedzony anglojęzyczną prelekcją Michała Chłopka. Skupimy się na społecznym aspekcie filmu, socjologicznej analizie nurtu, a także usadowimy dzieło w szerszym kontekście historii Polski i polskiego kina. Film będzie dostępny z angielskimi napisami.
Michał Chłopek – student socjologii na II stopniu, pełniący funkcję koordynatora Sekcji Filmowej Koła Naukowego Socjologii UJ. W pracy licencjackiej analizował rolę polskiego kina lat 90. w legitymizacji zmian społeczno-ustrojowych okresu transformacji.
Wydarzenie organizowane jest przez Koło Naukowe Socjologii UJ i Instytut Socjologii UJ. Dofinansowane ze środków Rady Kół Naukowych UJ.
