Barre à terre is a full-body workout that combines ballet-inspired exercises with strength training on the floor. It's also known as floor barre.
Here are some benefits of barre à terre:
Strengthens muscles: Barre à terre strengthens and lengthens muscles, especially in the legs and abdomen.
Improves flexibility: Barre à terre can help develop flexibility and range of motion.
Improves posture: Barre à terre can help improve posture and core strength.
Safe for injured dancers: Barre à terre was originally developed by Russian dancer and choreographer Boris Kniaseff in the 1940s as a way for injured dancers to practice safely without the barre.
Suitable for all levels: Barre à terre is suitable for all levels, from beginners to professional dancers.
Low impact: Barre is considered low impact but high energy.
Barre à terre classes are usually accompanied by classical music and take place on the floor. The class typically starts with quicker exercises to warm up, then moves on to exercises that require holding positions. The class ends with stretching and more intense mobility exercises.
