Mighty Fine Arts presents "BaroqueN" featuring new work by Matt Bagley. This show opens May 2nd with a reception for the artist and will run till June 14. Master printmaker Matt Bagley brings his work to MFA loaded with relevance and insight and virtuosity. He explains: "There is no argument that Guttenberg's invention of of removable type had a profound impact on world history. This invention has been credited with the rising rates of literacy and the Enlightenment movement. However in between the Renaissance and the Enlightenment fraudulent and antisemitic printed matter were very popular. Often these were manuals on how to identify and execute witches. The era was labeled the Baroque period. In these days of social media, misinformation and AI slop I feel we are in a Neo-Baroque or BaroqueN era. Recently I have been feeling "BaroqueN" as well. It has been a struggle to find relevance as a narrative artist. I would much prefer to illustrate my imaginary world of talking animals, space bugs and robots. But the world is on fire. This show is an intersection of my personal, professional and political work. Most of the pieces in the show are mono and relief prints and some drawings and paintings as well. Everything is completely hand done start to finish. NO digital and NO AI." Also on Opening Night Wordspace Artspeak presents a musical performance by Long Black Car! Your favorite geezer cowpunks will be raising a ruckus to make the cows come home! Clear the roads and hide your stash, Long Black Car is about to pull up!
