Presented FREE by the acclaimed Midtown Concerts series produced by Gotham Early Music Scene this program of enchanting Baroque music and dance explores themes of love nature play and ritual.
Featuring a cast of nine artists (six musicians and three dancers) the show highlights the exquisite music of Baroque masters Henry Purcell Jean-Baptiste Lully François Couperin Jean-Philippe Rameau Louis Marchand and Antonio Vivaldi.
Audiences will be captivated by BALAM’s original Baroque dances—The Old Bachelor Harlequin Goes Bird Watching and La Folia: A Spanish Fantasia, which offer a feast for the senses and imagination.
Splendid period costumes, striking masks, lively castanets, and shimmering finger cymbals, as well as additional creative surprises—such as Balinese golden scrolled-jeweled leather bird wings and a handmade butterfly kite—enhance the entertaining fantasy of the program.
