Riding bareback can help both the horse and rider in a number of ways, including:
Balance
Riding bareback can improve your balance and stability in the saddle by strengthening the muscles that contribute to your balance. It can also help you develop your seat and feel.
Connection
Riding bareback can help you feel more connected to your horse. Without a saddle, the rider's line of communication is less obstructed, making it easier for the horse to pick up on subtle cues. For example, if the rider shifts their weight back while sitting deep, the horse can anticipate a request to stop or slow down.
Workout
Riding bareback can be a good workout because you need to engage your core muscles to balance. You might also notice that your muscles are stiffer afterwards than they would be if you rode with a saddle.
