"THE RICH HAVE ALWAYS FED OFF THE POOR. THIS TIME IT'S FOR REAL."
Cult film night BAR TRASH continues with its 11th sensational season — SYNTHETIC FLESH! — a tribute to more than 100 years of monster makeup FX.
Described as “FERRIS BUELLER’S DAY OFF meets FROM BEYOND” by acclaimed horror critic Alan Jones at its world premiere at the Scala Cinema in 1989, Brian Yuzna’s SOCIETY — starring BAYWATCH’s Billy Warlock — is an “eye-opening mix of graphic special effects, startling sexual concepts and sleazy outrage of the kind normally reserved for the hardcore pornographic industry”.
It features some of the most extreme / surreal body horror transformations in horror film history by Screaming Mad George. You literally can’t have a celebration of rubber in horror cinema without it. The film’s radically anti-establishment message – that the rich are literally an inhuman species devouring the rest of us – couldn’t be more relevant to our unequal modern world.
“SOCIETY is by no means a scary film — it’s a fun one, designed as a good time, not a spooky time — but there’s no denying that the ideas present are scary. Perhaps scarier still is the fact that all these years later, those ideas are as relevant and as contemporary as ever.” (Lexi Bowen)
Polite notice: We are showing SOCIETY with subtitles from the best available digital source.
