BAR TRASH host Token Homo is stupidly proud to be launching another sensational season of bar screenings at Beer Merchants Tap with the ultimate housing crisis flick, DEMONS 2 (1986).

Following the rubbery excess of DEMONS (1985) — a demonic infestation emerges through the screen to overwhelm the audience watching a horror film in an old cinema — the sequel applies the same practical magic to a new location: a high-rise apartment building where the demons emerge through the TV. Shot on location in Hamburg — which is why DEMONS 2 also makes the perfect closing night for Oktoberfest — don’t worry if you haven’t seen the original, this one plays as if that story never really happened.

The splatter was created by key makeup FX artist Rosario Prestopino working with another industry legend, Sergio Stivaletti, who provided the mechanical and transformation effects (as they had on DEMONS). Inspired by the American latex pioneers of the early 1980s — especially Tom Savini — Prestopino and Stivaletti combined prosthetics and animatronics with a thoroughly European sensibility, notably the nightmarish iconography of Hieronymus Bosch, to create their housing hellscape.

“The first film has some of the best practical effects I have ever seen in an 80s film but this film takes what that one had to offer and builds upon it. Overall, DEMONS 2 is a great sequel that deserves to be seen especially by fans of 80s horror. Check it out.” (HORROR SOCIETY).
