BAM (Black Art Matters) TALENT is proud to mark their 5th anniversary by announcing the return of BAMFEST, a day-long celebration of Black artistry and heritage, taking place on Sunday, June 7 kicking off at 10:00 AM at the historic Wealthy Theatre.
This year’s festival centers on the theme of "Reclamation."
------------------------------------------------------------------------
About BAMFest
Initially launched in 2018 as a two-weekend festival at the original Dog Story Theatre, BAMFEST is resetting itself as a cornerstone for local creators. “BAMFEST planted the seed before BAM Talent even existed. It works as a conduit for progress; a multi-dimensional Black Artistic Influx, providing a sense of hope and a platform for a group that has felt nationally neglected.” says Darius Colquitt, Founder and Producing Artistic Director of BAM Talent
The return of BAMFEST serves as a "return to form" for the organization, reclaiming space and narrative in a location deeply rooted in history. Wealthy Theatre, situated in what was formerly a prominent Black neighborhood, provides the perfect backdrop for a festival dedicated to honoring the voices of the diaspora.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
BAMFEST 2026 will feature a packed schedule of events, including:
Live Staged Readings & Musical Performances:
Showcasing high-octane storytelling and the Artistic Prowess of the West Michigan Community.
The Cooperative Market:
Featuring local Black-owned & Underrepresented food trucks & artisan vendors, prioritizing direct-to-consumer support.
Community Open Mic:
A platform for local voices and personal stories to be heard.
Keynote Address & Impact Awards:
Hear from BAM’s Thought Leaders, recognizing local leaders who have made a tangible economic impact on the community.
