Join the Berks History Center and Charlie Adams as we travel to Baltimore and Edgar Allan Poe’s House and Museum, the place that defines the beginning and the end of his life. Although born in Boston, Poe’s family roots were firmly set in the soil of Baltimore, and here his mortal remains rest for eternity. While he was fond of saying he was a Virginian man, Baltimore was where he found refuge early in adult life, where he met his future wife, Virginia Eliza Clemm, and where he took his first steps of what would be his career for the next 17 years. In fact, Poe loved this city so much he claimed to have been born in Baltimore.Planned stops and drive-bys include the house in which he resided from 1833 to 1835 (we have not been to this one yet), the spot where he was found delirious and near death, the building in which he died, and the Poe memorabilia exhibit at the Enoch Pratt Free Library. Lunch will be on-your-own at Fells Point, where Poe frequented, and his ghost is said to linger. And the day will culminate with your host reading “The Raven” on Poe’s grave at Westminster Burial Ground.
