About the Artist:
Denise Mayang is a Philippine-born, Las Vegas–based artist whose work reflects her Christian faith and Filipino identity. After surviving cancer, she attributes her healing to Jesus Christ, who has since become a prominent subject in her art. Mayang works primarily in acrylic painting but also creates digital illustrations and handmade jewelry. Her work often features bold pastel colors and striking combinations that reflect both her spiritual journey and cultural heritage.
Exhibition Statement:
Balik Tanaw—meaning “to look back”—is a return to roots and a rediscovery of identity. Through paintings inspired by food, family, faith, and memories of the Philippines, Mayang reflects on the traditions and relationships that shape her life. The exhibition celebrates Filipino culture while honoring the everyday moments that connect her to home, heritage, and belief.
