Sliding Scale, suggested $10-$30 per session / $50-$150 for full series Emilyn Stam and John David Williams are offering traditional "Bal Folk" Music and Dance workshops on various Thursdays in January, February and March 2026. "Bal Folk" is a living tradition of dance events featuring traditional dances (and their modern versions) from Western Europe. Each session focuses on a particular dance or two: We'll break down the tunes / the steps in detail so you get right into the style and feel for each! Feel free to come to one, some, or all sessions.
Music Workshop 5:30-6:30 - Come learn repertoire for Bal Folk dances! Fun tunes taught slowly by ear, ideal for melody based instruments (Fiddle, accordion, mandolin, flute, etc.). You are welcome to stay for the dance workshop and either learn the dances or play the tunes you just learned for the dancers.
Dance Workshop 6:30-7:30 - Come learn traditional dances and dances common at Bal Folk events. Non-gendered dance roles, no partner or experience necessary. Each session is a focus on a different dance, and we'll go in depth into the footwork, connection, and variations for each.
