Canadian songwriter, musician, and self-described social media influencer BAHAMAS (Afie Jurvanen) returns to the Maritimes this fall with his latest album, BOOTCUT.You could call this BAHAMAS’ “country” album, full of songs rooted in familiar Nashville topics like love, death, and automotive vehicles, and topped with extra dollops of teary twang, mandolin-pluckin’, and saloon-door-swinging rhythm. But BOOTCUT isn’t simply a BAHAMAS interpretation of country music, it’s a country-music interpretation of BAHAMAS that puts a sepia-toned spin on Jurvanen’s signature moves using a genre-less blend of Americana, Bluegrass, and all that BAHAMAS has been known to embody: the funky finesse, the bizarro guitar solos that sound like they’re beaming in from Mars, and the ever-so-sly storytelling that filters timeless themes through a distinctly modern lens.
A globally successful touring artist, BAHAMAS’ appeal transcends age and genre. His 2020 album, Sad Hunk, won the JUNO for Adult Alternative Album of the Year, with the track “Done Did Me No Good,” featured in an epic final scene of the last season of Ted Lasso. Nominated for a 2019 Grammy Award, his records have all been named to the Polaris Music Long List. He’s an eight-time JUNO Award nominee taking home five awards, including the accolade for Songwriter of The Year (2015). He has appeared multiple times on Jimmy Kimmel Live, CBS Saturday Morning, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
