About this Event

Backyard chicken keeping can be a rewarding and fun way to expand your urban farm and produce your own eggs and fertile compost. Whether you are a brand-new chicken-keeper or are just thinking of getting a backyard flock, this class is for you.

The instructor will discuss the pros and cons of keeping chickens in an urban setting, the best types of coops/housing, how to keep your flock healthy, breed considerations, as well as deep bedding and composting methods for dealing with manure.

About the instructor, Marni Swart: Marni has been a backyard chicken keeper since 2014 and enjoys helping others decide if urban chicken keeping is right for them and their family. She is a certified sustainable urban agriculturist, garden coach, certified permaculture designer, nursery woman, and owner of Growing Roots Together. Marni’s passion is teaching people how to sustainably grow more of their own food, herbs, and medicine as a way of building connections with nature and within communities.
