Some of the first shows played by Brian Krumm & His Barfly Friends (Pravda Records) were at the Montrose Saloon and the band played a 20-show residency there in 2021–2023. (Scott & Odie were featured guests.) This show celebrates a return to the beloved venue.
8:00PM: SCOTT & ODIE (CHICAGO)
Veterans of the storied Chicago indie music scene, cousins Scott and Odie Schaefer have collaborated in several acclaimed rock bands across multiple decades. Scott sings. Odie strums. And it's always been that way. Drawing on their full-band experiences, these musical co-conspirators have recently distilled their sound into a nimbler duo format. Potent and portable, this arrangement allows for more organic performances defined by up-tempo melodic tunes interwoven with witty in-between-song banter. Raw and immediate, Scott and Odie aim for maximum engagement. If the performers have fun, then the audience has fun…and Scott and Odie ALWAYS have fun!
They have recorded for various labels, including Chicago’s longest-running indie Pravda Records (which was awarded “Best Independent Record Label” by the Chicago Reader in 2023 and 2024). Having supported varied artists such as country punk legend Jason Ringenberg (Jason & the Scorchers), Americana progenitor Walter Salas-Humara (the Silos), punk luminary Richard Lloyd (Television), and other noteworthy national faves such as Local H and Firewater among others, Scott and Odie have definitely enjoyed their adventures to date. However, with more recordings and regional shows on the horizon, they feel the fun is really just beginning….
9:00PM: BENJAMIN SPODEN (LAKE GENEVA, WI) WITH GUEST CHRIS STRAND
Benjamin Spoden is a singer songwriter artist type who has spent the last 30 years creating songs for the sake of creating songs. His favorite thing to do in life is to take a pesky melody that keeps him awake at night and over the course of a few months or years turn it into a thing that exists that you can listen to. He is a vessel to the earworm and suffers from delusions of grandeur.
BRIAN KRUMM AND HIS BARFLY FRIENDS (CHICAGO)
10:00PM: Brian Krumm and His Barfly Friends is a project led by Brian Krumm, front man for Chicago’s Americana-noir group The Great Crusades. The band’s debut album, Just Fade Away, was recorded with members of his regular band as well as a who’s who of Chicago music scene notables, with Crusader Christian Moder producing. Just Fade Away was released by Chicago’s Pravda Records. Influences like Robyn Hitchcock, the Jayhawks, Warren Zevon, and Dylan shine through all the material on Just Fade Away with Krumm’s storytelling at the forefront. The single “City That Care Forgot,” an ode to New Orleans, debuted on Pravda Records in 2025.
The lineup of the Barfly Friends includes Jessie Hotaling (vocals), Brian Hunt (bass), Brian Leach (guitars, keyboards, vocals), Krumm, and Christian Moder (drums, vocals), with a rotating cast of special guests from the Chicago music scene sitting in frequently.
