Prescribing your first wheelchair can feel overwhelming. This full-day workshop is designed to build your confidence and competence in the foundational wheelchair assessment process. Through guided instruction and practical demonstrations, you’ll learn the essential steps to ensure safe, effective, and client-centred outcomes.
What to Expect:
Hands-on learning: Practice taking accurate wheelchair seating measurements and explore basic manual wheelchair configuration.
Clinical reasoning: Understand the factors behind common postural presentations and how they influence your prescription decisions.
Pressure care essentials: Learn why pressure management is critical and how to integrate it into your assessment and trial process.
Decision-making confidence: Discover what to look for when trialling products and develop awareness of your scope of practice—knowing when to refer for advanced support.
Key Learning Objectives:
- Master the foundational wheelchair assessment process
- Take accurate body measurements to guide product trials
- Apply pressure care principles in seating decisions
- Identify causes of common postural presentations
- Learn decision-making frameworks to assist in guiding collaborative decision making.
