BACK TO BASICS CLASS Prerequisite Class: Rotary Cutting (typically the week prior)
If you would like to learn to piece a quilt top, we would LOVE to teach YOU! Join our 3 week Quilting Basics Class and learn the fundamentals of quilting from tools of the trade to completing a wall size project or tablerunner. Please sign up for only one session. You need to know how to use a rotary cutter for this class. (See Rotary Cutting)

Fabric:
OPTION #1: "FAT QUARTERS".
FAT QUARTERS: 4 OF BACKGROUND COLORS
4 OR MORE OF COLORED FABRICS
A "fat quarter" is a cut of fabric that measures 18" x 22".
A "regular" quarter yard measures approximately 9" x 44".
A fat quarter and a quarter yard are the same amount of fabric.
OPTION #2: Buy 1 yard of LIGHT for your background color.
Buy four or more quarter yard cuts off the bolt for your
colored fabrics.
OPTION #3:
The easiest option is to buy 1 yard background color and one yard of colored fabric.
SASHING, BORDER & BINDING: ONE YARD TOTAL
The strips of fabric that go between the blocks are called "sashing".
The strips that go around the outside of the blocks are called "borders".
"Binding" is what covers the very edge of the quilt so there are no raw edges.
BRING TO CLASS:
- Fabric - prewashed and pressed
- Sewing machine in good working order
- 1/4" Foot for your sewing machine- A MUST!
- Cotton thread that will bend with your fabric. If in doubt, buy light gray or beige
- Rotary cutting mat
- Rotary cutter with a new blade
- 6"or 6 ½” x 24" ruler
- Scissors or snips, seam ripper, stylet
- Silk straight pins
- Mechanical pencil or fabric marker
- An eagerness to learn!
CLASS POLICY
1. Fees must be paid at time of registration.
2. Phone registrations taken with a credit card.
3. Refunds given only if we are notified at least 7 business days prior to class.
4. Minimum of 3 students per class. Class will be canceled if minimum is not met and a full refund will be given.
5. No children, babies, or guests in class.
6. You must obtain a supply list PRIOR to each class. Read it completely to see what supplies are necessary AND what preparation needs to be done.
7. Where required, please bring a sewing machine in good working order and that you are familiar with operating. Teachers will not spend
class time learning your sewing machine.
