Beats Pacifik is proud to present Back to Back, a night dedicated to the inability to plan. Pairing DJs with The Guru, with little practice and no plan to bring the full spontaneity of professionals reading the dancefloor. Back to Back features a mix of genres to take you on a journey through the spectrum of electronic music.
The third edition is going down just like the second did, as I had so much fun last time jamming with each of the fine selectahs that I wanted to continue to jam with them all. So to start the night we will have MyLove in to kick things off with his deep hypnotic and soulful progressive sounds paired with Guru’s techy tribal and afro influenced organic House. Next we are so happy to be able to bring the sounds of Lucy Ford, a talent that always brings the party pumpin’, dance til your feet hurt UKG and Garage, paired once again with Guru’s lifelong collection of Speed Garage hits and 2 step kickers to keep the dancefloor vibrating. Finally, because we can’t just not have DNB on the bill, we’re very excited to see none other than OB1 Keoni bringing his style of rarely heard hard edge stompers to the Drum n’ bass table. Paired with Guru’s own liquidy smooth atmospheric tones and cerebral stompers, this pairing is sure to be the perfect way to end the evening on a high note.
If you were there for the first edition of Back 2 Back, you know this is a night of spontaneity. Most of us have never played together and we won’t be planning anything other than keeping the vibes high while the feet keep moving.

Born in Hawaii and raised on Vancouver Island, Keoni started spinning records in ‘99. Originally known as Angry Samoan, he opened for legends like Johnny Fiasco, Donald Glaude, Dj Brian and De-ko-ze, he soon became a regular in the underground scene.
His rhythmic tribal sounds with filthy techie baselines moved dance floors for over a decade making him a top selector for the dance movement in Victoria BC. VEMF was his launching pad to international exposure as he landed in a European tour for the Running of the Bulls in Spain and playing the after parties in London UK in 2009. On the ultimate high of that European tour, Keoni aka Angry Samoan changed his stage name to his native born name and was selected as one of the top openers for Blueprint in Vancouver. Opening for renowned producers such as Morgan Page, Wolfgang Gartner, Chris Lake, Michael Woods, Avicii, Dave Seaman and Victoria favourite; DJ Dan.
Music evolving as it does, he’s never limited to a particular genre. Surprising dancers with massive Grime DnB/Jungle or Infusing sexy, dirty Spanish Tech with driving African drums, haunting female vocals, hypnotic Hip Hop, future Bass House & Breaks with key dropping remixes definitely appealing to the masses of today! After a few years on hiatus from 2015-18, he found his spotlight again with the VEMC crew here on the island under the name OB1Keoni.

From the sunny beaches of Canada, emanating from the Zen Den a dulcet tone rings out. Hailing from a mystical land known as “The Basement,” The Guru cultivated his love for music while scouring record collections. Through drums The Guru discovered a love for the rhythms that beat deep within us. Armed with a pair of turntables and a collection of music that rivals most libraries, he embarked on a journey to share his means of meditation with the world. His mission? To ensure that everyone gets to ride a sonic wave of ripping Amen breaks, pumping Disco drums and even the odd dub echo on a journey into music.
The Guru has been exploring and sharing the expanse of music since the late 90’s. A focus for Guru came in fostering true Jungle/DnB with Come Correct Sound Crew in Calgary, Alberta. As well as his time digging through endless crates in search of rare Roots Reggae and Dancehall, which he performed at both, Unity Sound Saturdays and the long running Dub at the Pub. The Guru played every venue in Calgary that existed since 2000, bringing his element to popular residencies, raves and club nights over his near 30 year career. With many festival appearances under his belt including Shambhala, Connect Festival, FozzyFest, Wicked Woods, Electric Sky Festival, OtherWorld along with many more and regular shows around the sunny shores of Victoria, Canada The Guru’s steam is still rolling. With a stage presence and effervescence like few others, accompanied by the knowledge of a true veteran of the music world, a Guru performance is truly like none other.
