Experience the saxophone in a new light, in the hands of a truly exceptional young musician. In Bach to Bowie, we’re joined by the energetic young saxophonist Jess Gillam; a BBC Young Musician finalist, and the youngest-ever soloist to perform at the Last Night of the Proms.Enjoy an eclectic array of music for saxophone and strings, spanning centuries. Music to touch the soul and spark the mind – from Mendelssohn’s exuberant String Symphony (featuring Katherine Hunka), written when he was only 12 years old and full of youthful panache, to Elaine Agnew’s Twilight, a quiet, atmospheric piece that evokes a peaceful time of meditation, after sunset before sunrise.
CPE Bach will dazzle, Nadia Boulanger will charm, all alongside the push and groove of music by David Bowie, David Heath, and John Harle.
Whether you like classical or folk or something in between – this is where you’ll find your groove!
