About this Event
Harpsichordist Benjamin Katz maintains an active performance life as a soloist and ensemble player, and has appeared in venues including Fenton House (London), The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum (Boston) and Issue Project Room (NYC). He has collaborated with groups including A Far Cry, The Knights, Tiny Glass Tavern, and Palaver Strings. In 2013-2014, he received a grant from the Beebe Foundation (Boston) to research and perform Italian baroque music (semi-improvised 'partimento' bass lines) in the British Library, and has since conducted workshops on the baroque improvisation, for Stony Brook University, Longy School of Music, Harvard Organ Society. and The New School. Katz's passions include discovering rare and beautiful never-before-heard baroque music from archives, libraries, and private collections, investigating the role of improvisation in early music, new music for the harpsichord, and collaborating withinspiring colleagues who sing, and play both period and modern instruments.
This performance is a program in association with the exhibit, "Paul Deery – Bach in Color: The Goldberg Variations." Paul Deery spent years constructing a visual language to translate Bach’s Goldberg Variations into a beautiful symphony of constructed color. This exhibition will present the completed series with supplemental materials and notes from Deery’s deep inquiry of these storied compositions.
The exhibition is on view through April 26, 2026. Museum hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 11am to 5pm. For more information visit www.hunterdonartmuseum.org
