About this Event
Baby Gardeners Club – Summer 2025
Tuesdays, 11am – 12pm | 15th July – 19th August
Ages 0–4 (older siblings welcome, though activities are aimed at under 4s)
All sessions are free to attend, but booking is required.
Join Ali from The Community Patch CIC for a gentle, nature-inspired summer series for babies, toddlers and their grown-ups. Each week, outside in the community garden, we’ll explore sensory, messy, and outdoor play, with space for adults to connect too. Activities are relaxed, with a mix of guided ideas, fun natural materials to explore and free sensory play.
Each session will feature a mix of baby-friendly and toddler-friendly activities.
Please dress for the weather. We’ll be outside whatever it’s doing, so puddlesuits and wellies etc are recommended if it’s raining, and hats if it’s sunny.
Session 1 – Mud & Leaves
Tuesday 15 July, 11am–12pm
We’ll ease into the baby gardening series with soft, sensory mud play. Babies can explore mud in trays and hide in piles of leaves. There’ll be time for songs and a story time at the end.
Session 2 – Garden Potions Tuesday 22 July, 11am–12pm
A calming session for children to explore herbs - with bowls of water infused with rosemary, lavender, petals and citrus. Babies splash and swirl, enjoying water play, while older ones can mix garden potions.
Session 3 – Mud Pies & Garden Cakes Tuesday 29 July, 11am–12pm
Messy play with a garden twist. Babies are free to dig and explore earthy, muddy textures. While older children can make decorative “cakes” using tins, petals, feathers and pebbles. A simple, playful way to get your hands into nature and feel the benefits of soil on your skin.
Session 4 – Garden Colour Mash Tuesday 5 August, 11am–12pm
This week at Baby Gardening club, we’re exploring, playing with colour and fruit. Babies will explore the feel and look of squished fruits, such as raspberries and tomatoes. Older children can use the mush to decorate flags or fabric. A hands-on session that focuses on exploring the senses.
Session 5 – Nature Textures Tuesday 12 August, 11am–12pm
From soft moss to fuzzy leaves, this week we’ll be exploring natural textures and what we can find under our feet. Babies will roll and stretch on covered trays, making leafy ‘angel’ shapes. We’ll chat about the textures we find and how to notice them with our little ones.
Session 6 – Sounds & Stories Tuesday 19 August, 11am–12pm
We wrap up the summer with soft natural sounds and storytelling. Babies and toddlers will explore the rustles, shakes and rattles of natural objects like willow, eucalyptus and sand. We’ll end with a relaxed group story to bring everything together.
Generous funding has allowed this playgroup to be on offer free of charge to attend. If you can no longer make a session, please contact us so we can allocate the space to someone else.
