About this Event

Baba Yaga's Enchantment - Slavic Magic Festival

Journey into the deep forest and immerse yourself in the world of the Slavic witch of the woods. Baba Yaga's Enchantment is a mystical multi-sensory festival to celebrate Baba Yaga, the most famous witch of Slavic folklore. Join Madame Pamita, author of Baba Yaga's Book of Witchcraft, Twisted Heart Puppetworks, and Ukrainian singer Alina Pash, for an evening of storytelling, shadow puppetry, music, and Slavic witchcraft. Dress in Slavic costume and come before the show to shop the Witches' Marketplace and experience unearthly encounters, costumed forest creatures, Baba Yaga-inspired art, readings with divine oracles, and traditional Ukrainian crafts.

Step out of ordinary reality and into the otherworld in a multi-faceted performance where Madame Pamita will have you gather 'round to hear about the true origins and magic of the witch of the woods. Immerse yourself in the debut of Twisted Heart Puppetworks' new shadow puppet folktale of Baba Yaga and the Wolf King. Dive into the ancient-modern ritual music of Ukrainian singer Alina Pash.

Before the performance:

Craft a protective motanka, or Ukrainian spirit doll*

Meet the oracle and ask questions of the wise witch

Get an insightful tarot reading*

Enjoy Ukrainian food and drink*

Shop the magical crafts at the Witches' Marketplace

After the performance:

Meet-and-greet with Madame Pamita, Tania Yager of Twisted Heart Puppetworks, and Alina Pash.

Purchase a signed copy of Baba Yaga's Book of Witchcraft (and stuff from Tania and Alina or just meet and greet only?)

Last chance to shop the Witches' Marketplace

Doors to the marketplace, crafts, readings and oracle experience open at 4:00 PM

Performance begins at 7:00 PM

Marketplace closes at 10:00 PM

Suitable for all ages (mild theatrical violence in puppet show)

*No ticket required for pre- and post-show event, but there is a nominal charge for these experiences marked with an asterisk *.

Bios:

Tania L. Yager, a multifaceted artist, writer, and educator based in Northern San Diego, California, is known for her contributions to visual and performance arts. She is the Founder, Creative Director, and Lead Fabricator of Twisted Heart Puppetworks. Her accolades include winning the 2020 New York Catapult Opera Innovation Award for the collaborative short film project “HANJO”. In 2021, Tania curated the international shadow puppetry festival, Shadows Across the Globe, which united artists from 13 countries.

Throughout her career, Tania has dedicated herself to puppetry arts education for both children and adults, showcasing her talents in shows and exhibitions across the United States. In 2022, she was a resident Fellow at the Virginia Center of Creative Arts. During her residency, she conceived the acclaimed miniature shadow puppetry exhibition titled “Tales from Min’Umbra” for The Mini Time Machine Museum in Tucson, AZ, which subsequently toured multiple locations nationwide.

Tania’s expertise spans traditional shadow puppetry, cinematic shadow theater, tabletop and toy theater, traditional Czech marionettes, and cranky theatre. She is also the visionary behind The Dark X-mas Market of Vista and serves as the Director of The Wild Hunt of Vista Krampus Run, an annual Yuletide procession celebrating dark winter spirits. Her work is deeply rooted in fantasy, folklore, and her studies in Shamanism, influencing her creative endeavors profoundly.

Madame Pamita (she/her) is a Ukrainian-American witch, teacher, candle maker, spellcaster, tarot reader and award-winning author. She has a popular YouTube Channel for teaching witchcraft, she hosts the “Magic and the Law of Attraction” and “Baba Yaga’s Magic” podcasts and she is the author of Baba Yaga’s Book of Witchcraft, The Book of Candle Magic, Magical Tarot and Cancer Witch (co-written with Ivo Dominguez, Jr.). She is also the proprietress of the online spiritual apothecary, the Parlour of Wonders and lives in Santa Monica, California. You can find her at parlourofwonders.com.

Award-winning Ukrainian artist Alina Pash brings her talents as a singer, rapper, and songwriter, infused with mysticism and magic, to her performances. A 100% Bitanga (Ruthenian dialect for 'hooligan'), Alina breaks old stereotypes with her authentic style—a mix of electronic music, hip hop, pop, and ethnic folk. Born in a small Ukrainian village and raised on archaic Carpathian traditions, she embodies an independent spirit deeply rooted in her motherland.

Now based in LA, Alina explores her unique vision, beats, and vibrations on an international scale. Her tribal, mystic, hip-hop, and electronic style has met acclaim all over Europe. Be among the first in the States to experience her mesmerizing performance.

Ticket Price (7:00 PM main performance): $25 (in-person event only).
