Can Themba Az Öltöny című klasszikusát Mothobi Mutloatse adaptációját felhasználva magyarországi ősbemutatóként állítja színpadra Balázs Zoltán. A kortárs jazz-opera zeneszerzője Kovács Adrián. A jazz elemeit a klasszikus operai hagyományokkal ötvöző új zenei alkotás, amely a világirodalom egyik legismertebb dél-afrikai szerzőjének novellájából készült átdolgozáson és librettón alapszik, a METTRIN és a Maladype együttműködésében valósul meg a Louis Armstrong Nemzetközi Jazz Fesztivál nyitóelőadásaként. Az Öltöny a dél-afrikai irodalom gyöngyszeme, amelyet több nyelvre lefordítottak és különböző formákban feldolgoztak, többek között 1994-ben a legendás johannesburgi Market Theatre-ben Mothobi Mutloatse és Barney Simon adaptációjában, majd 2004-ben a párizsi Theatre des Bouffes du Nord-ban Peter Brook, Marie-Hélène Estienne és Franck Krawczyk francia fordításában.

The Suit: A Contemporary Jazz-Opera Premiere
Zoltán Balázs is directing the Hungarian premiere of The Suit, based on the classic short story by Can Themba, utilizing the adaptation by Mothobi Mutloatse.
This new musical work, composed by Adrián Kovács, is a contemporary jazz-opera that blends elements of jazz with classical operatic traditions. Based on the libretto and adaptation of one of South Africa’s most renowned literary figures, the production is a collaboration between METTRIN and Maladype Theatre. It will serve as the opening performance of the Louis Armstrong International Jazz Festival.
Following in the footsteps of Peter Brook—who first adapted Themba's masterpiece for the European stage—director Zoltán Balázs promises an associative, gradually unfolding performance. The production aims to protect the order of an irrational universe through the power of humor and the absurd.
