Move your body and enjoy the rhythm at Axé Fest, our community day of FREE classes featuring the Afro-Brazilian martial art of Capoeira. Classes are open to kids and adults!

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art developed by African warriors enslaved in Brazil and used to fight for their freedom, preserving the lives and cultures of African peoples. Today, we honor this tradition of freedom fighting and Black liberation.

Who are we?

The Capoeira Spot is a community-based nonprofit that promotes the Afro-Brazilian martial art of capoeira in Washington, DC. Capoeira was created by African warriors enslaved in Brazil and used to fight for their freedom. Today, we continue to practice and teach this liberating art. At The Capoeira Spot, we grow stronger together.
