About this Event
AXS Lab, a 501(c)3 nonprofit located in NYC. Slowly but surely, our program AXS Map is working towards making a fully accessible world. AXS Map is a free tool that provides people living with disabilities with a map of where they can travel and what business or places will welcome them with a safe and comfortable experience. With this information, all people with disabilities and their supporters can find work, a place for coffee, obtain medical services, and experience a quality of life on par with able-bodied people. Users can create ratings that get added to AXS Map’s database, allowing others to see the ratings and know ahead of time whether or not a venue will be accessible to them. Our work will grant freedom and equality, empowering access to education, employment and economic opportunity. Plus, having a rating will help the businesses with their SEO and Google search results.
Now you’re probably wondering, what a mapathon is. The AXS mapathon feature allows users to create events and compete on a leaderboard to see who can map the most venues in their neighborhood. This year, AXS Lab is hosting six AXS mapathons around NYC in a bid to increase accessibility and accessibility knowledge throughout the city, with a focus on historically underrepresented neighborhoods. We are starting in Long Island City and need your help.
