About this Event
Janine Combes is an award-winning Tasmanian artist and jeweller who works from an off-grid, solar-powered studio on the land of the Nuenonne people, Bruny Island. She makes wearable and sculptural artworks and collaborates with other artists and communities to promote conversations about belonging to a changing world.
In this workshop participants learn some basic jewellery-making skills and make wearable pieces of art inspired by conversations about a changing world.
Climate scientists tell us that one of the most important things community members can do to respond to climate change is to talk about it. While many of us think and worry about the changes which are happening, we often do not talk about them in our daily lives.
Making art and talking with others are two ways of making sense of the world around us. This workshop harnesses both approaches to explore the use of materials, forms, and ideas to make contemporary jewellery in a fun and relaxed program while also having time for conversations about climate change. No jewellery making experience is necessary. It does not matter what you believe or know about climate change. This is a space for exploration and hope.
