About this Event

Workshop Description

This workshop explores acting through a somatic approach, centering the body as a living, responsive instrument rather than something to be pushed, overridden, or controlled. Many actors are trained to work through discomfort or disconnection, which over time can narrow creative range and weaken trust in one’s inner experience. Through a combination of somatic practices and acting exercises, participants will explore how reconnecting with the body can support greater presence, emotional access, and relational depth. The workshop is held within a supportive group environment where actors are invited to safely explore their relationship with emotions, vulnerability, and connection. Rather than focusing on performance outcomes, this space prioritizes presence, attunement, and care. The intention is to create conditions for corrective experiences in which participants can be seen, heard, and supported in ways that are often unavailable in traditional training or professional settings.

Learning Objectives

Understand the body as the actor’s primary instrument, recognizing how survival shaping and nervous system states influence artistic expression.Identify common barriers to connection with self, scene partners, and material (e.g., tension, protection, self-monitoring, disconnection).Develop greater somatic awareness to support presence, responsiveness, and creative range in performance.Discover somatic practices that can be integrated into your artistic process.Practice collective healing through shared presence, attunement, and mutual witnessing.
