Get ready for an unforgettable night of jazz at Rubys! National Jazz Award Winner and ARIA Nominee, Lachlan McKenzie, will lead his Jazz Quintet on a swinging hard bop/neo-bop/contemporary jazz journey that promises to be an exhilarating ride.Lachlan, originally from Brisbane but now based in Sydney, has quickly built a remarkable reputation as a talented trumpeter and composer. Over the years, he’s had the privilege of performing and recording with some well-known national and international artists. Notably, in 2023, he took his quartet to Osaka, Japan, where they played at the renowned Takatsuki Jazz Street Festival. He has also graced the stages of top jazz clubs in Seoul, South Korea, and Bangkok, Thailand. Most recently, Lachlan released his sophomore album, “Departures,” which earned a 2025 ARIA nomination for Best Jazz Album. To top it off, he clinched first place in the prestigious National Jazz Award at the Wangaratta Festival of Jazz and Blues.
Joining Lachlan on stage will be an exceptional lineup of musicians:
• Justin Yeo on tenor saxophone (Sydney)
• Hugh Barrett on piano (Sydney)
• Jacob Graham on double bass (Sydney)
• Aaron Jansz on drums (Brisbane)
Together, this dynamic quintet will take you through a thrilling repertoire. They'll be playing jazz standards alongside original compositions, hard bop and post-bop favourites, all while channelling the spirit and artistry of key modern and classic jazz influencers such as Miles Davis, Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter, Roy Hargrove, Kenny Dorham and Cedar Walton

Step inside from 6:30 pm. The music begins at 7:30 pm. Venue closes at 11.30pm.
Seating is unreserved and claimed by those who arrive first — the early ones always find the best vantage point.
Food and small plates will be available throughout the evening, and the bar will be flowing with local and international wines, classic cocktails, fine spirits, and a deep collection of bourbons worthy of New Orleans itself.
