Join us for Avoca 250: Lights, Liberty & Legends to experience local history firsthand through a wide variety of living history reenactments.
Historians in authentic 18th-century attire will provide demonstrations of blacksmithing, pottery, spinning, colonial games, period cooking, Quaker life, and batteaus. Visitors can walk through encampments detailing the daily life of a Revolutionary War soldier and attend educational presentations focusing on the experiences of enslaved individuals and Native Americans during this era. The event also features scheduled rifle and cannon firing demonstrations, accompanied by live colonial-era music.
Programming includes performances portraying historical figures like Col. Charles Lynch and Penelope Lynch, alongside the official launch of the first-ever biography written about Col. Lynch. Additionally, we will be joined by the mobile museum from the Virginia Statewide 250 Committee, making this a comprehensive and interactive way for the community to learn about the people and practices of the 18th century.
