The Avant Theatre Ballet brings a cosmic tale, The Planets ballet, to the immersive full-dome experience of Grand Rapids Public Museum’s Roger B. Chaffee Planetarium, reimagining ballet through a story of celestial legends.Inspired by Gustav Holst’s complete orchestral suite, with each of its seven movements representing a celestial being: Mars, the Bringer of War; Venus, the Bringer of Peace; Mercury, the Winged Messenger; Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity; Saturn, the Bringer of Old Age; Uranus, the Magician; and Neptune, the Mystic. In this ballet, each planet is a character with its own story, mood, and presence as the music unfolds, introducing the celestial beings and their interactions with one another, gradually drawing the audience into their mysterious and shifting realm.
Doors open at 6:15 p.m.
Show begins at 7:30 p.m.
