DetailsJoin us on a three-mile amble through Epping Forest, followed by a pub lunch. If the seasons and the weather are kind to us, we should see some fine autumn colours. Epping Forest is one of the remaining pieces of the former medieval Forest of Essex. The section through which we’ll be walking is managed by the Corporation of the City of London today.
We’ll visit the Epping Forest Visitor Centre at High Beach, the ‘Lost Pond’, Loughton Camp hillfort, Strawberry Hill Ponds, Fairmead, and the church of the Holy Innocents, finishing with lunch back at ‘The King’s Oak’ pub.
Although there are some semi-surfaced paths on our route, much of this walk will be on muddy tracks and footpaths. Please come well shod (walking boots are ideal, trainers are definitely not) and do be prepared for mud!

We should see lots of autumnal colors to photograph so do bring along your camera, mobile phones and upload them onto the meetup or our facebook page.
Refreshments
We will end the walk with a late lunch at ‘The King’s Oak’ pub where a table will be booked for 1.30pm. If you can’t wait that long, there is a tea hut at the start of the walk, and another – famous with local bikers – near the end of the walk.
Prices
Walking in Epping Forest is free. Your £2 Meetup fee will be collected from you on the day.
Directions
There is a large carpark by the pub (opens at 11am) which is free and a car park near the visitor centre which I think is a pay by phone. Spaces directly outside the pub are free.
There is parking in the area by the pub with a pay and display (card only) or use the Ringo app. The nearest tube station is Loughton, on the Central Line, a 30-minute walk from High Beach and ‘The King’s Oak’.
