Why We’re Using a Lottery System for Registration
For our Autism Outdoors Utah rafting trips, we want the registration process to feel as fair, inclusive, and low-stress as possible. In the past, first-come, first-served sign-ups created a lot of pressure to register quickly, which we know can be difficult for many of our families.
To improve this experience, we’re using a lottery-based registration system.
How it works:
Registration will be open for a set period of time (rather than filling up immediately). The registration period will be May 23-28. Anyone who registers during that window will be entered into the lottery.
After registration closes, participants will be randomly selected from the pool of entries.
Those selected will be notified and given next steps to confirm their spot. Those not selected will be put on a waiting list. If we get cancellations, we will draw from the waiting list to fill open spots.
Why we’re doing this:
It removes the stress of needing to sign up immediately at a specific time.
It creates a more equitable opportunity for all families to participate.
It helps us better support a diverse group of participants across our programs.
We know how meaningful these experiences are, and our goal is to make the process of joining them feel just as supportive and accessible as the events themselves.

⏱️ The float trip lasts approximately 90 minutes, and we’ll enjoy snacks and treats together once we get off the river.
