Discover the often-overlooked experiences of autistic women and why so many remain unseen and unheard. Followed by Q&A.
About this Event

Autism has historically been underdiagnosed in girls and women, leaving many to grow up without the support, understanding, or resources they need. Often facing unique challenges, they may mask their behaviours to fit in, leading to high rates of misdiagnosis and mental health struggles.

This talk is for all the nerdy girls, the loud and funny girls, the quiet gamer girls, the “Manic Pixie Dream Girls”, and all those who feel they don’t quite fit any label. In this inclusive talk, Dr Gemma Williams draws on the latest autism research and her own lived experience to shed light on what it means to be an autistic woman or girl, and why so many have flown under the radar.

Speaker Bio

Dr. Gemma Williams is an autistic academic, researcher, and author. Originally trained as a linguist, Gemma’s research has since expanded into social justice topics, particularly around neurodiversity. Her work explores autistic people's experiences of loneliness, barriers to healthcare for neurodivergent individuals, and the sensory challenges of public spaces. She serves on the Westminster Commission on Autism and is an Associate with the National Development Team for Inclusion.

Doors open at 7pm, talk starts at 7:30pm - come down early to grab a good seat!
