Friends of the Back Mountain Memorial Library will host a presentation by paranormal author and futurist, Maxim W. Furek, who will discuss his new book, The Smurl Haunting: When Ed and Lorraine Came to Town. The event will be held during the annual Author’s Luncheon on Sunday, April 26, at 11:30 am at the Appletree Terrace Newberry Estates, Dallas, PA.Maxim’s book has been widely acclaimed as a true story based on events in West Pittston, PA., and was the subject of the 2025 film, The Conjuring: Last Rites. Maxim was personal friends with Ed and Lorraine Warren, the legendary Roman Catholic demonologists who investigated the haunting.
Maxim is a Luzerne County resident, a Vietnam Veteran, and a promoter of NEPA culture. He advocates for literacy in schools and in the community. He has been interviewed on numerous paranormal programs, including Coast to Coast with George Noory and was featured on the award-winning Austrian podcast Mysterious Universe. Doors will open at 11:30 am and lunch at 12:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased online, over the phone, or by stopping into the Library. Plan on attending this “otherworldly” event. When purchasing tickets, please specify if you would like to sit next to another guest. Seating is eight people per table, so bring your friends for an afternoon of insight into the paranormal!
