As part of Words on the Waves Writers Festival we have introduced Central Coast Reads, a community-wide reading program consisting of book clubs and author talks. The aim is to not only encourage reading and social and human connections through a love of books, but also to establish the Central Coast region as a region of ‘readers’ on the cultural map of Australia. The Peak is a nailbiting and unputdownable read, a powerfully taut, gripping and fast-moving international thriller that weaves a story of friendship, love and betrayal together with the ruthless geopolitics of China’s rise, set in the last 24 hours of the world as we know it.
Sam Guthrie had a twenty-five-year career in international relations serving as a trade envoy to China, an Asia Pacific corporate affairs adviser and political lobbyist and a senior government official. He has worked extensively across Europe, the US and Asia, and has spent close to a decade living and working in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Prague. He has a master’s degree in international relations. He splits his time between Canberra and Sydney.
Books will be available for sale at the event with Book Face Erina joining us for the morning. A morning tea will be available after the event, with thanks to Brentwood Village.
Tickets are FREE thanks to the partnership between Words on the Waves and Keyton/Brentwood Village, as well as our wonderful team of volunteers who help with these events. The cafe will be open prior to the event if you want to buy a coffee to bring in with you.
