ABOUT THE AUTHOR
James Conaway is the author of seven novels including The Big Easy (Houghton) and Nose (St. Martin’s), a memoir, Memphis Afternoons (Houghton), and the travel books The Kingdom in the Country (Houghton) and Vanishing America (Counterpoint). His many books of nonfiction include Napa: The Story of an American Eden (Houghton), a bestseller, and two sequels, The Far Side of Eden (Houghton) and Napa at Last Light (Simon & Schuster).
His articles have appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The Atlantic, Harper’s, The New Republic, Outside, American Scholar, Smithsonian, National Geographic and other publications. He has worked for the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the Rome Daily American, and the Washington Post Style section. He has been a Stegner Fellow at Stanford, an Alicia Patterson Fellow, and the editor of the National Trust’s magazine, Preservation.
