About this Event

In the face of a rising tide of censorship and suppression, this paperback edition of Free Speech Handbook equips readers with a practical framework for appreciating the history—and future—of our free speech protections.

Ian Rosenberg has worked as a media lawyer for over 25 years specializing in First Amendment, libel and intellectual property law. He is the General Counsel of Latchkey Films, and was previously an Assistant Chief Counsel advising ABC News. A magna cum laude graduate of Cornell Law School, Rosenberg is also an Adjunct Associate Professor at Brooklyn College, and an Emmy-nominated documentary filmmaker. He is the author of The Fight for Free Speech: Ten Cases That Define Our First Amendment Freedoms, Free Speech Handbook (art by Mike Cavallaro), and the forthcoming Terrible Stuff Damaging Everybody: Dominion v. Fox and the Future of Democracy (NYU Press, Fall 2026).

Mike Cavallaro is from New Jersey, lives in Brooklyn, and has worked in the comics and animation fields for over 30 years. His clients include Abrams Books, Marvel, DC, Image, IDW, First Second Books, MTV Animation, Cartoon Network, Warner Brothers, and others. Mike’s collaborators include authors such as Jane Yolen, Adam Rapp, J.M. DeMatteis, and Ian Rosenberg, and his solo graphic novels include the Eisner Award-nominated memoir Parade (with fireworks), the Nico Bravo series, and the Eowulf series. Mike is a member of the National Cartoonists Society and an instructor at the School of Visual Arts.

David Scott is a veteran investigative reporter whose work over the last three decades has garnered the industry’s top honors, including a Peabody Award, two Columbia DuPont Batons, and 14 Emmy Awards. He was a Correspondent for HBO Real Sports with Bryant Gumble, and a Senior Investigative Reporter and Senior Broadcast Producer at ABC News. Scott now uses his compelling interviewing technique in the Court TV series, Interview with a Killer.
