Jane Austen is an economical writer. She makes every word count and has a purpose in introducing every character she mentions. This month’s talk is dedicated to those "Men in the Background" of Austen's novels - those who are spoken of but never seen, or who provide a service or attend a party. They are members of the larger community helping the world of the novel to be credible and unique but who never have a line of direct speech.
Ignore such men at your peril!
Starting time is 2.00pm and will be held at St John’s Presbyterian Church Hanbury Street Mayfield.
Entry $5 for non-members, $4 for members. Eftpos is not available, we only take cash.
Please bring a cup or mug, and either a small plate for afternoon tea, or a gold coin donation.
